Middle School Classroom Teacher

St. James School, a faith-based Philadelphia neighborhood school for traditionally under-served students, educates middle school children in a nurturing environment and with a challenging academic program. We are an Episcopal School that develops our students’ moral and spiritual selves and their intellectual, physical and creative gifts.

Students in both fifth and sixth grades attend classes in groups no larger than 17 students. An extended day/year program and graduate support program are utilized in addition to a typical academic day to prepare students for rigorous, college preparatory schools, and a direct path to college.

Applicant qualifications include:

  • Classroom teaching experience required
  • Bachelor degree in education required
  • Ability to work collaboratively and creatively with a small faculty
  • Willingness to implement differentiated instruction and use backwards planning
  • Creative and effective classroom management skills
  • Experience in the NativityMiguel Network is a plus

    Specific Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Responsible to the principal and executive director for all duties and expectations.
  • Maintains an orderly, respectful classroom environment that reflects the Episcopal identity of the school and the dignity of every student.
  • Plans and implements daily lesson plans which include engaging activities
  • Maintains consistent, effective communication with parents/guardians of students.
  • Arrives at school by 7:30am each morning and has school responsibilities until 6:00 P.M. every day
  • Teach 5 days of Saturday school per school year
  • Attend meetings, development functions and in-services as scheduled by the principal and executive director
  • Teacher will perform all duties and responsibilities of his/her position in accordance with state and local laws, the rules and regulations of the St. James School and its authorized agents, and the policies and rules adopted by the constituted St. James School.
